Grant Fuhr

Grant Fuhr

Birthdate: Sept. 28, 1962
Birthplace: Spruce Grove, AB, Canada

Height: 5'9"
Weight: 190 lbs

Grant Fuhr was the goalie of the '80's, end of discussion. He is now considered one of the Greats in the NHL. He was the man behind the mask with the Edmonton Oilers.

Fuhr's career was damaged when it was discovered that he had a drug addiction. People will testify that Fuhr would have drugs before and after games. He may be even more successful today if this tarnishing event had not happened.

Fuhr could be compared to Curtis Joseph. The Oilers played a great offensive game, rarely skating backwards. In that view, the defense was weak. Many times, Fuhr would be left alone to face a speeding player coming down the ice. Down the road in the Dynasty, Glen Sather identified this problem and tightened the defense.

Like most Oilers, Fuhr has had to move into different homes many times as he was traded. After his Edmonton career, he went to Toronto. He was soon traded to Buffalo to play with the Sabres, where his stay lasted longer. He then moved to Los Angeles, having a terrible year. Finally in '95, Fuhr was traded to St. Louis. This brought him out of a slump and moved him into the starting position of the Blues.
