This Oilers defenseman was the offensive power of the defense. He has won three Norris Trophies in his NHL career. Coffey often abandoned his post in order to make a play, and in this manner, had many points. As of the end of the 1996-97 season, he is the leauge's second best playmaker, Gretzky being first, with 1,063 assists.
Wayne Gretzky and Paul Coffey is another combination that Edmontonians will never forget. Coffey played with Gretzky in the Juniors and Edmonton.
Coffey was only present on the first three Stanley Cup teams, being traded to Pittsburg in 1986. There, he and Lemieux won two Stanley Cups for the Penguins. After, he played in Los Angeles for a short period, united with Gretzky. After a season with Detroit, he is now playing for the Philadelphia Flyers.
